Homework Wednsday Febuary 18
Study These רשי's:
posuk zayin:
and do not kill a truly innocent person or one who has been declared innocent
How do we know that if one emerges from the court guilty [and is given the death sentence], and one [of the judges] says, “I have a way to prove his innocence,” we must bring him back [to the court and retry him]?
Because the Torah states: “and do not kill a truly innocent person.” Although he was not declared innocent-for he was not vindicated by the court-he is, nevertheless, free from the death penalty, because you have reason to acquit him.
And how do we know that if one emerges from the court innocent, and one [of the judges] says, “I have a way to prove his guilt,” we do not bring him back to the court [to retry him]?
Because the Torah states: “and do not kill… one who is declared innocent.” And this one is innocent because he was vindicated by the court. -[From Mechilta, Sanh. 33b]
Posuk Tes:
(this one should be learned inside)
And you shall not oppress a stranger
In many places the Torah warns about the stranger [convert] because he has a strong temptation [to return to his former bad ways]. -[From B.M. 59b]

Psukim
Two of the psukim that we had to learn (Vuv and Tes) are really just repeating what was said a few psukim ago. About not glorifying the poor person and oppressing the stranger. I looked at them and I realized that Tes is really the rashi on that other posuk about that. So why did rashi commentate on the first one if he knew that it was explained in the next few psukim?

Az Yashir
When the Jews started singing Az Yashir the angels got so happy that they started singing also. Hashem silenced them because they were singing really when they had no right to sing. Hashem asked them why they were singing when some of Hashem's creations got killed. This tells us a little about Hashem. He only killed the Egyptians because they had enslaved the Hebrews for 210 years but not willingly. Whenever someone has to die young or has to be destroyed Hashem does it but because it needs to be done, not because He is cruel.
