question
You know the thing after ein ke'elokeinu called pitum haketores? Well in that thing in the second paragraph I came across this concept of Halichos. Then it said that you shouldn't learn Halichos but you should learn Halachos. So what exactly are Halichos?
Text and translation of our גמרא.
The Gemara...
AND ABOUT THE MORNING TAMID THAT IT MAY BE OFFERED only DURING the first FOUR HOURS OF THE DAY.
The Gemara...
Who taught that which the rabbis taught in a braisa:
Scripture states with regard to the manna: AND WHEN THE SUN GREW HOT IT WOULD MELT. This melting occurred
AT FOUR HOURS into the day [i.e. during the sixth hour].
YOU SAY AT FOUR HOURS,
BUT PERHAPS IT WAS, RATHER, AT SIX HOURS [i.e. during the sixth hour]?
WHEN IT STATES elsewhere AT THE HEAT OF THE DAY,
the reference to SIX HOURS IS THEREBY STATED.
SO HOW DO I INTERPRET the verse AND WHEN THE SUN GREW HOT IT WOULD MELT, which implies at a time of day when the sun is hot but the shade is still cool?
It means AT FOUR HOUR into the day.
Now, WHO is the Tanna of this Braisa, who holds that the fourth hour of the day is no longer called “morning”?
It is neither R’ Yehudah nor the Rabbis.
For if it is R’ Yehudah,
Why, he maintains that until the end of four hours is also considered morning,
and if it is the Rabbis
they maintain that until noon is also considered morning! -?-
The Gemara...
If you prefer, say it is R’ Yehudah, and if you prefer, say it is the Rabbis.
The Gemara...
If youprefer, say it is the rabbis, for
the verse in regard to the manna states in the morning, in the morning, a double expression, which implies:
divide [the morning], which totals six hours, into two “mornings,” each consisting of three hours. Accordingly, the verse means that they gathered the manna during the “first morning,” i.e. the first three hours of the day, and during the remainder of the morning it melted.
And if you prefer, say it is R’ Yehudah, and
this extra word “morning” serves to move up the time for gathering the manna by one hour.
The Gemara...
At any rate, everyone agrees that and when the sun grew hot it would melt occurred at four hours [i.e. during the fourth hour].
- How is this implied?
The Gemara...
R’ Acha bar Yaakov said:
Scripture states: and when the sun grew hot it would melt.
What time of day is it when the sun is hot and the shade still is cool?
Say that this is at four hours.
